The survival of family farming is dependent upon obtaining prices that offer a good rate of return. For large export productions, subject to strong competition, this means guaranteeing a quality product and knowing how to negotiate with importers. Are farmers’ cooperatives able to do this ? If so, under what conditions ? This text describes and analyses the experience of Bolivian coffee cooperatives and the support provided to them by CICDA.
