Under pressure from the Landless Workers’ Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra-MST), the Brazilian government has gradually distributed land to family farmers. The success of agrarian reform comes from transforming it from a mere settlement procedure into genuine social, economic and territorial process. Based on fifteen years of interventions in southern Brazil, this text reflects on Agronomes et Vétérinaires sans frontières’ experience providing technical assistance to farmers, building supply chains and collaborating with an extremely powerful social movement.
